本名:コーネル・ジョージ・ホブリー=ウールリッチ(Cornell George Hopley-Woolrich)
ニューヨーク市生れ。コロンビア大学中退。
『黒衣の花嫁』『喪服のランデヴー』アイリッシュ名義の『幻の女』などが有名なミステリー作家。わたしも読みふけった時期がある。日本の某有名な時代小説作家も参考にしたという…。
『幻の女』も非常にファンタスティックな面を持ち、そんなところが惹かれるのだろうと思う。そうした作風は、『今夜の私は危険よ』に集まっている。
アイリッシュという名前は1962年に本名にしてしまっているらしいけど、ここではウールリッチにまとめた。
