Train trouble
What time before you are going to get out of your home in the morning when you have to attend important conferences or significant presentations in your offices? It may depend on how long you commute to offices and depend on the sense of time you have. In the circumstances, I would leave home at least one hour before as usual. That is to say, I would try to reach there an hour before an important business starts.
If nothing happens to me on my way to the office, I could use the length of time for further preparations in the business and I could be relaxed not only physically but also psychologically for successful results of the business. Even though there are some troubles on the way such as train delays or small traffic accidents, one hour is enough to get to office.
Transportation systems especially in commuting trains sometimes don't function well. Train troubles in the Japanese railway systems are often seen. If the trouble is a little big one, you cannot reach your destination by waiting even a couple of hours. Moreover, especially recently you may have heard the announcement on platforms that there is a bodily accident in the line (I'm sorry if you cannot understand Japanese announcements by conductors). In many of the cases, someone throws himself/herself on railway tracks. In this situation you should give up the trains in the line and try to find alternative routes to offices. Can still get to your office punctually in this situation? If not, you have to secure other courses for a rainy day.
You don’t do good jobs on the whole day as well if you are late for work by transportation trouble even without any special events such as important conferences or presentations. Slow starters at work sometimes affect the jobs afterward.
In the case of transportation troubles, finding alternative routes seems to be one of the best solutions regardless of there are important businesses or not. If you have a single transportation system to work, it could lead to a big trouble because you have no alternative ways to offices. In order to avoid the risk of not reaching there, it’s another solution to choose where you live.
To introduce my case, I live in Shin-Matsudo of Chiba prefecture next to Tokyo for the east. I commute to office in Kinshi-tyo of Tokyo for almost one hour every working day. Fortunately there are two lines at the station near my apartment. Actually when my commuting train stopped completely on an important day, I changed to the other line as soon as I recognized the fact and successfully I could get to the important business punctually. Although I didn’t intentionally choose my apartment near the convenient station, as a result I was very lucky.
Risk management
:To chose home near the station which has two lines if possible.
:To secure another route by bus or other transportation systems in advance.
:To have a substitute in your place for important things in emergent cases.
:To consider to stay at a hotel near offices the day before important things.
:To know how long it takes to get to work in the remotest substitute route to offices.
