KODOMO Ramsar

An event on KODOMO Ramsar in Miyajima-numa was held on October 6, Saturday to 7, Monday, 2007 in Miyajima-numa, Ramsar site in Bibai city, Hokkaido prefecture. An event on KODOMO Ramsar is the second of FY2007 and the 6th in total from the launch.

30 children from Hokkaido area including Furen-ko and Shunkuni-tai, Akkeshi-ko and Bekambeushi-shitsugen, Kushiro-shitsugen, and Tofutsu-ko, Kutcharo-ko, and, Manko (Okinawa prefecture) and Yatsu-higata (Chiba prefecture) participated.

Variety field program were taken by idea of newly established waterbirds wetlands center. On the 1st day, they learned about White-fronted Goose and Miyajima-numa by playing field games e.g. tracing feather or feces of the birds in rice paddies and looking for rested fallen rices as if White-fronted Goose were feeding.

In the evening, children counted the number of the birds that were returning by flocks to Miyajima-numa with holding counter and looking through field glasses.
For dinner, local dishes cooked by mothers living in Bibai city using rice, vegetables and chickens as special products were served.

After breakfast, children played a game on migration of White-fronted Goose in front of wetland center and learned that Miyajima-numa is connected with other sites and foreign countries as migratory paths of the birds. In succeeding program to make message, various opinions are exchanged and discussed actively so as to express characteristic of Miyajima-numa and including local words in Hokkaido.


Our Sarurun(means wetland in Ainu Dialect) is connected to the world.
