PRASHANTH has a history
Prashanth, who has the nickname of KATHAL ILAVARASAN (the prince of love) among his fans, is one of the most popular young heros in Tamil filmdom.
He is a promising actor not only because of his fresh, handsome looking, but also of his fine acting ability and multifaceted talents.
Prashanth was born on 6th April 1973.
His father is a film actor, producer and director Thiagarajan.
He made his film debut at the age of 17. That was his silver jublee hit (run over 25 weeks) VAIGASI PORANTHACHU (A new month has begun) in 1990. Now we can see a young, not yet matured but very cute boy Prashanth in this film.
His next film VANNA VANNA POOKAL (Colorful Flowers) directed by Balumahendra won the National award for 1991 and CHEMBARUTHI ( a girl's name) directed by Selvanami gave him yet another hit.
After these hits he had a rush of offers from film makers. The young hero was in demand.
Some of these films are : UNKAHHE PIRANTHEN (I was born for you) in 1992, ENGA THAMBI (Our little brother) in 1993,RAASA MAGHAN (King's son) in 1994, SENTHAMIZH SELVAN (Young Tamilian) in 1994, KANMANI (a girl's name) in 1994, AANALAGAN (handsome man) in 1995 etc.
The most important film during this period is surely Mani Ratnam's THIRUDA THIRUDA (thief, thief) in 1993. (This film was dubbed in Hindi as Chor Chor, also in Telugu as Donga Donga.) Even though this Mani Ratnam's film was averaged hit, Prashanth's appearance was very cheerful and full of youth. His acting with youthful earnestness contributed to the charm of this unique movie. Wonderful music was composed by AR Rahman.
Prashanth was also acting in Malayaram films, Telugu films and Hindi films. An offbeat Malayalam film PERUNTHACHAN (The master carpenter) won the best film award in Kerala in 1990. (This film was introduced also in Japan at the Fukuoka film festival in 1992.)
In Hindi films he was acting like I LOVE YOU, ANTO KAPREMYUTH, in Telugu PREMA SIGARAM, SAAMANTHI, LAATTI, THOZHI MUTHTHU.
And in 1998. This year might be monumental for Prashanth himself. JEANS was released. This mega production was made by U.S. based former tennis star Ashok Amritraj, directed by Shankar. Music was composed by AR Rahman and Prashanth paired opposite the world beauty Aishwarya Rai.
Prashanth changed himself drastically in JEANS, but it improved his image very much. His sharp and elegant looking matched his role well and he looked very confident and natural than ever. JEANS celebrated 100 days run in Singapore and Malaysia, and silver jubilee run in Chennai.
Prashanth enjoyed a fruitful year 1998. Next films KANNETHIRE THONDRINAL (she appeared before my eyes) and KAADAL KAVIDHAI (love poem) both became big hits.
