ideas of life, death, and nature
The Concept of Inochi[Jan.31,2000]**What is 'inochi' at all? This is the basic word that means 'life', 'spirit', and 'nature' in Japanese. The Japanese grasp the idea of  'human life' in relationship with that of 'nature'. Similar ideas would be discovered in your own culture. In order to resolve today's environmental crisis, we should thoroughly reconsider our ideas of 'life' and 'nature'. This is the first step to life studies.(Published in 1991). Most influential paper I have ever written in English. (This file is divided into two parts.)
The Human Natures and Modern Civilization[Jul 19,2000]I tried to analyze the nature of contemporary civilization by using three concepts, namely, "the nature of connectedness (to all living things)", "the nature of self-interest", and "the nature of mutual support", which are embedded in the base of our life.(Published in 1995). This is a summary of a series of essays, Life Torn apart. The translation is going on by Felix (English Translation Project Member).

bioethics, comparative culture, feminism...
Bioethics and Japanese Culture[Dec.3,1999]**This paper illustrates how modern medical technology and traditional culture&religion clash in the midst of an industrialized, high-tech society, such as Japan. Brain death and organ transplants debates in Japan are examined from the view point of comparative culture. (Published in 1995). Some comments appear on the Internet.
Two Aspects of Brain Dead Being[Jan.31,2000]This summarizes the essence of my "brain death as human relationships" theory, first appeared in Brain Dead Person, 1989. We must not miss the discrepancy between scientific reality and our emotional/spiritual reality. A big problem is hidden here.(Published in 2000).
What do we Learn from Japanese Feminist Bioethics?[Dec.4,1999]Japanese bioethics began in 1972 as feminist bioethics. Do you know this fact? If you do not, read this. I want to translate the original Japanese paper, which is ten times longer than this one (You can see it in my Japanese web site). Published in 1998.
Toward International and Cross-cultural Bioethics[May2,2000]We should progress from bioethics to life studies, that is to say, "an international, cross-cultural, more feminist, more environmentally oriented study of life, science and society." Published in 1994.

and more to come....
