FR-50 is an HF ham bands receiver suitable for the transceive operation with the SSB transmitter model FL-50. Both were released in 1966 by Yaesu Musen Co. This receiver is a double conversion superheterodyne in which the 1st local oscillator is not crystal controlled but LC self-oscillation. Oscillation frequency ranges from 8.5 MHz to 24.0 MHz depending on the band. It should be noted that this VFOoutput frequency is so unstable. This unstable VFO is one of the weak points that the gear holds. Two mechanical filters are equiped for the two step IF amplifiers at 455 kHz. Without large modifications in the circuits was followed by FR-50B in 1969.
