Yomiuri soccer club (Yomiuri Verdy) as Japan Soccer League champion shall be eligible to play in Asian Club Championship 1992.

Japan Soccer League is reorganized into J.League (professional teams) and Japan Football League (amateur teams) in next season.
The top ten teams, except professional teams, of the league in 1991/92 shall be eligible to play in the 1st Japan Football League division-1 (J1).
The rest of the teams, y'-teams, and the top two teams of National Regional League Tournament, Osaka Gas and Seino Transportation, shall be eligible to play in the 1st Japan Football League division-2 (J2).

Yomiuri soccer club (division-1) and Yomiuri Junior (division-2) is reorganized into Yomiuri Verdy in next season.

The Challenge Championship '92 (Konica Cup) is a preparatory competition for the professional league which will start in 1992, and is training matches for Japan National Team Under-22 which changes the team name from Under-21.

Team of Under-22 is a squad for the Olympic Games '92 Barcelona qualifying.

In Preliminary Rounds, all teams play each other one time.
When regulation time of the match play fails to determine a winner, teams play a sudden-death (golden-goal) extra time. If the match is still undecided, the winning team is decided in a sudden-death penalty shoot-out.
Teams are allotted three points for a win, no points for a loss, and one point shall be awarded for every two goals in a match.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) goal difference, 3) total of goals.
