In Japan Soccer League, all teams play each other two times.
Teams are allotted two points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) goal difference, 3) total of goals.
TOYO kogyo as champion withdraws from the 4th Asian Champion Clubs Tournament 1971.
Nippon Steel changes the team name from Yawata steel.
Because Yawata and Fuji Steel have been re-merged into Nippon Steel Co. which is called 'Shin-Nittetsu'.
Toyo kogyo, Furukawa and Yanmar change these team colours from Light Blue to Green (Toyo), from White/Blue stripes to Blue/Yellow stripes (Furukawa), from Red to Orange (Yanmar).
The bottom two teams shall play in play-off matches.
