New nickname of the league is Nadeshiko League. Nadeshiko (flowers of pinks) is a symbol of Japanese ladies.

In 2004, L.league implemented a two-division system. L1 (division 1) has 8 teams, and L2 (division 2) has 6 teams.
L1's teams are the top 6 teams in the league of last season and the top 2 teams of play-off matches. In L1, all teams play each other two times (each at home and away).
L2's teams are the rest of the teams and a new team (Albirex Ladies). In L2, all teams play each other three times (each at home and away, and one more home or away).

In L.League, teams are allotted three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) goal difference, 3) total of goals.

In L1, the bottom one team, Ohara JaSRA LSC, is relegated to L2 automatically.
In L2, the top one team, OKAYAMA Yunogo Belle, shall be promoted to L1 automatically.

TASAKI Perule F.C. changes the team name from Tasaki Perule F.C.. ('TASAKI' is a brand of Tasaki Shinju Co.)

YKK AP Flappers changes the team name from YKK Tohoku Flappers. ('YKK AP' is a brand of YKK Group.)

Reinas as L.League champion shall be eligible to play in Nadeshiko Super Cup 2005.

14 L-League(Nadeshiko League)'s clubs and 10 representative teams of nine regions are qualified for the competition.

In 1st and 2nd Rounds, regulation time is 80 minutes.

In the tournament, when regulation time of the match play fails to determine a winner, teams play 'V-goal'(golden-goal) extra time for 20 minutes. If the match is still undecided, the winning team is decided in a penalty shoot-out.

Beleza as Women's championship Winner shall be eligible to play in Nadeshiko Super Cup 2005.
