In the Championship, 24 regional representatives(*) including the winner of Prime Minister Cup are qualified for the championship.
*) the top three teams (including both of the winners) of Hokkaido colleges league and Tohoku colleges league, the top seven teams of Kanto colleges league, the top one teams of Hoku-shin-etsu colleges league, the top three teams of Tokai colleges league, the top four teams of Kansai colleges league, the top three teams (including both of the winners) of Chugoku colleges league and Shikoku colleges league, the top three teams of Kyushu colleges league, except the winner of Prime Minister Cup.
In the Preliminary Rounds, all teams play each other one time.
Teams are allotted three points for a win, one point for a draw, and no points for a loss.
The ranking is determined as follows: 1) total of all points, 2) match results between the teams concerned, 3) goal difference, 4) total of goals.
In the finals, if two teams are level at the end of regulation time, 20 minutes (in the final, 30 minutes) of extra time shall be played.
If the match (except the final) is still undecided, the winning team shall be decided in a penalty shoot-out.

In the Prime Minister Cup, sixteen regional representatives(*) are qualified for the tournament.
*) One college team is selected to represent each of the nine regional college football tournaments. Four extra teams are selected to represent the Kanto colleges league. Two extra teams are selected to represent the Kansai colleges league. One extra team is selected to represent the Kyushu colleges league.
If two teams are level at the end of regulation time, 20 minutes of extra time shall be played.
If the match is still undecided, the winning team (in the final, the winner) shall be decided in a penalty shoot-out.
The winner, Kansai University, is qualified for the 85th Emperor's Cup.
