Fugs は60年代に New Yorkの2人のビート詩人が始めたロックグループではっきり言って初期の[ESP]盤の演奏なんて聴けたもんじゃない．それがアナログ盤だけでなく CD 迄出すという事はその歌詞の中味によっぽど魅力があるんだ、と言うことになる。確かに曲のクレジットには、Timothy Leary, Ezra Pound, Allen Ginsberg の名前が書かれていたりする．メンバーの一人Tuli Kpfergergの詩がJudith MerrilのSFアンソロジーにいくつも載ったりした。1st Album の裏ジャケは[ESP]のレコードカタログになっているが、Guiseppi Logan, the East Village other、The Godz のレコードなんかがあって、ああ、そんな時代だったなと思い出す。Fugs の商品価値を認めた[Reprise]は Charles Larkey, Danny Kootch といった達者なスタジオミュージシャン達にバックアップさせた。"Tenderness Junction" のジャケットおよび見開き写真はRichard Avedon だし、Allen Ginsberg が客演の上裸で写っているし、アンバランスな魅力？気味が悪いだけ? Wierdness といえば西のMothers 東のFugs だった．当時の[Reprise]は Fugs, Mothers of Invention, Tiny Tim, Pearls Before Swine 等この路線が好きだったと見える。

この２人の有能なミュージシャンは60~70年代に一時代を画した Singer Songwriter 路線を強力に支える信頼性抜群のミュージシャンだった。２人とも Carole King のバンド"The City" のメンバーだったし、Larky ときてはかってCarole King の夫でさえあった。同じ身内と言っていいJames Taylor のバックにも頻繁に顔を出している。２人はまた"Jo Mama" というバンドでLPを２枚リリース 。"Keep On Truckin'","Machine Gun Kelly" 等の佳曲を残している。Danny は本名を冠したアルバム"Danny Kortchmar"も出した。
