Bob Dylan
Bob Dylanはもう巨匠と呼ぶしか無いでしょう。
ポップミュージックにこれほど多大の影響を及ぼした人物は他に知りません。
60年代前半アメリカがベトナム戦争の泥沼の中で混迷を深め、若者の間で「風に吹かれて」
("Blowning the wind")が支持され、 「戦争の親玉」「時代は変わる」などひたすら
Protest Song 路線を走って世の中の大人達をコケにし、世情をからかいまくった
Byrds, Turtles等のバンドが初期の佳曲をピックアップしてそれぞれヒットチャートを賑わせた。
1965年初頭に名曲の宝庫の感さえある"Bring it all back home"をリリースし、春には英国ツアーを敢行。そのドキュメンタリが映画"Don't look back"(D.A. Pennebaker監督）としてVideo発売されている。
この映画にはAnimalsを辞めた Alan Priceや英国のBob Dylanと評されたDonovan等の映像が収録されていて非常に興味深い。
初夏に6分にも渡る名曲"Like a rolling stone"を録音。全米２位のランキングを得る。
このセッションにはまだ無名のAl Kooper, Mike Bloomfield が参加したが,
その７月のNewport Folk Festivalにはアコースティックギターをエレキに持ち変えて、Bloomfieldが所属していたPaul Butterfield Blues Bandをバックにステージに立ったおかげで、巷の折り目正しいフォークファンから大ひんしゅくを買ったのだった。
その後、"Blonde on blonde"に収録された"Rainy day woman #12 & 35"は麻薬を 歌ったものだとして本国では放送禁止となったが、構わず続けざまに"I want you", "Just like a woman"のシングルヒットを 売りまくった。
65年秋からバックバンドにRobbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Garth Hadson (彼らは元もとRonnie HawkinsのバンドHawksであった）らが採用され、 後に"THE BAND"となるのである。
米国において、British Invasionとは異なる位相でこのような変革が起こっていた訳だが、自ら歌ったように「時代は変わり」Popsも変わったその張本人Bob Dylanの存在感は極めて大きなものだった。
いまだにその呪縛から逃れられないかのように、M. Scorseseが2005年ドキュメンタリ映画 "No Direction Home"を上梓し話題を振り撒いている。
