このリストは Internet Explorer がインストールするフォントをリストアップしたものです。これらのフォントは Windows ではプリインストールされ，Mac OS 8.5 以降であれば標準でインストールされるフォントです。すなわち実質 Web Page 上でフォント指定しても安全であるフォントのリストです。 Mac OS 8.5 以前，もしくは Internet Explorer がインストールされていない環境でもプレーンな Mac OS に標準添付されているフォントで代換えとして利用できるフォントがある場合は，substitution: にそれを挙げました。より安全なフォント指定をするのであれば，代換えフォントのないフォントは指定するべきではないでしょう。また，substitution: に記述されたフォントは Mac OS Fonts List の該当箇所へのリンクになっています。 category: の欄にはそのフォントの分類と性質を記述しました。“Optimized low resolution devices”は，主に画面上で 18px 以下で表示されたときに読みやすいフォントとして分類しました。“Optimized high resolution devices”は，主に印刷したときに読みやすく，同時に 18px 以上で画面に表示されたときに美しいフォントとして分類しました。
