米国 Filemaker 社は同社のウェブサイトの記事において、Web Companion のセキュリティ問題をフィックスするアップデイタを 5/10 に公開するとしていました。

日本法人のサイトではこの件に関する情報を見つけることはできませんでした。

Form of italic fonts

Internet Explorer Fonts List、 Mac OS Fonts Listをつくっていて気づいたこと。フォントやサイズによって、イタリックと指定されたフォントがちゃんとイタリックのアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成されるものとそうでないものがあるようです。また、「アピアランス」コントロールパネルの「なめらかな文字で表示する」の状態によって表示のされ方が異なるようです。例えば Times Italic は「なめらかな文字で表示する」のチェックがされていない場合、 36 ピクセルではイタリックのアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成しているようですが、24 ピクセルでは Times (Roman) を傾斜させただけのようです (傾斜の角度、「Q」や小文字の形状で確認できると思います)。「なめらかな文字で表示する」にチェックを入れ、「サイズ：」の欄が 12 になっている場合、 12 ピクセル以上の大きさのイタリックのアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成しているようです。 7 は通常「アピアランス」コントロールパネルの設定を「なめらかな文字で表示する」にチェックを入れ、「サイズ：」の欄は 18 としています。この設定の場合、18px 以上の大きさの文字はイタリックのアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成し、14px 以下のものについては Times (Roman) を傾斜させただけの形状になってしまいました。 Times Italic の場合、「なめらかな文字で表示する」のチェックがされていない場合は 36 ピクセル以上の大きさで (本当は 24px 〜 36px の間に スレッショルドがあるのかもしれませんが、詳しく調べていません) イタリックのアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成していますが、 Times New Roman Italic では 10 ピクセルからアウトライン情報から文字の形状を生成しているようです。

今回はイタリックの書体についてのみ述べましたが、ボールドについても同様のことがあるのかもしれません。 Mac OS ではそのフォントに「ボールド」と云うアウトライン情報がない場合、 Roman のフォントを 1 デヴァイスピクセルだけ太らせると云う動作をします。そこまでは調べ切れていません。

VBS.LoveLetter

各メディアで「メイルを開いただけで感染する」と報道されているウイルス VBS.LoveLetter は、 Microsoft Windows 版 Outlook で受信しないと感染しないようです (carrier にはなり得ますが)。 Microsoft Windows 以外の OS 上で動作するメイラや携帯電話などの他のプラットホームでは対岸の火事となります (くれぐれも転送などしないように)。いい加減な / 中途半端な情報には扇動されないようにしたいものです (M$ 社による各報道機関への圧力か ?)。

5/7 00:00 現在、B から I の変種も存在し、もはや特徴的なメイルの Subject: であった ILOVEYOU からは判別できません。

自分が得意としている分野については報道されている情報について正しい情報や不足している情報を補完することができますが、その他の分野についてはなかなか知り得ません (だいたい今回のウイルスが広まった経路を地図を使って説明していること自体見当違い > 朝日新聞 5/6 夕刊)。きっと他の報道についても同様のことがあるのでしょう。ひとつのニューズに対していくつかのソースから情報を仕入れる必要があるものだと思いました。

Macintosh トラブルニュース が、 FileMaker Pro 5 の Web Companion で公開されたデイタベイスのセキュリティーホールについて Blue World Communications 社 の 記事 を紹介していました。指摘されているセキュリティホールは以下の 3 点です。

• Web Database Security によってそのようなアクセスを禁じる設定にしていても、XML Publishing によって Web Database Security をバイパスすることができ、誰もがデイタベイス上の一般公開されていないはずの全てのデイタを取得することができる。
• Web Companion のメイル機能を誰もが利用でき、デイタベイスのフィールドの内容をメイル本文にして送信することができる。 Web Database Security によってそのようなアクセスを禁じる設定にしていてもバイパスすることができ、デイタベイスにある一般に公開されていないはずの全てのデイタを取得することができる。
• インターネット上から、 Web Companion のメイル機能を利用して、匿名メイル等を送信できる。

Blue World Communications 社は、この記事の中の Solution: として以下の事例を挙げています。

1. Disable the FileMaker Pro Web Companion. This disables the automatic XML Publishing and email capabilities of FileMaker Pro 5.
2. Don't use FileMaker Pro 5. Earlier versions of FileMaker Pro Web Companion do not contain these security flaws.
3. Use FileMaker Pro access privileges rather than the Web Security Database. (Note: This only addresses the first two security issues reported here.) While FileMaker Pro access privileges seemingly offer a solution to this problem, they do not provide certain important additional features otherwise provided in the Web Security Database. As such, it is not a viable option for Web developers who require specific Web-related security features.
4. Use Lasso Web Data Engine as a secure proxy to FileMaker Pro 5 Web Companion. Configure FileMaker Pro Web Companion to limit access to the IP address of the machine on which Lasso is installed. You can then safely use Lasso security to protect your FileMaker Pro 5 databases.

デイタベイスの運用方法にもよるのでしょうが、7 には B. が一番現実的な選択に見えます。管理者の技術力によっては C. や D. の選択肢もあるのかもしれません。

Since this is just a show off thing, I would like to know if you think I should keep it in or not.
• I changed the arrow only popup menu to look closer to the real thing. I really have no applications that show this, so I don't know how well it is working. Please someone let me know how it looks, and what app they are using.
• Some minor cleaning up to the resource file.
