Carrying unfamiliar vegies and fruits, the morning market on foreign soil looks lively

　 木々茂るライン河畔の公園に深く入り来て石に坐りぬ

Entering deep into the clump of trees in a park by the Rhein, perch alone on a rock

*

　 滞在も三月越すいま新しき友と連れ立つ初夏のアルザス

Staying now for three month on foreign soil, go on a drive to Alsace-Lorraine in early summer choosing my local company

　 かかる地をいづれは共にたづねむと思ひをりしにはや妻は逝く

Although wished to visit again these lovely spots someday with my wife, she's meantime hastened to end her life

　 職引きし男らの立つ交差点「緑のおばさん」もはや世に見ず

Only retired men look after children these days at school crossings, the lollipop women are not seen in the street any longer

　　 食パンにとろけるチーズ挟み焼き男やもめがけふを始むる

Preparing two pieces of toast sandwiching sliced cheese, the widower starts the day with no special task

Stepping into a valley with remaining snow, just quiet world

木の芽雨蘇生のごとく目覚めをり

Awake alone now in the rain of budding season as if being restored to life
