ひと夏がやうやく過ぎぬ灯のもとに食器を洗ふ水のつめたし

（ひとなつの　ようやくすぎぬ　ひのもとに　しょっきをあらう　みずのつめたし）

　歳を取ると暑さ寒さにかくも敏感になるのか。この身体に心地よい気温は摂氏二十五度。面白いことに、これを一度以上も超えるともう汗ばむし、二十三度にもなれば股引を履く。外気温への許容度がいたく落ちてしまった。そして今や水仕事は給湯器に頼る季節となった。

The flying sparks from a welding operation remind me of the drop scene of the old film "Anna Karenina"

　 なに意図のありてや庭のくまぐまにゆり咲き出づるけふ原爆忌

What does it imply? There are lilies blooming all over in the garden, while it's Hiroshima Memorial Day today

　　 疎開児の列なし歩む道の辺に黒ゆり群れて遠きちちはは

At a great distance from their mothers and fathers, the child evacuees walk in a row along the mountain path with blooming black lilies

*

　 疎開児らもはや軍歌は唄はずに山百合の咲く道を抜け来る

Without singing an army song anymore, the child evacuees are coming through the mountain trail with blooming bush lilies

*

　 無人駅けふ着く列車はもはや無しともしび暗き笹百合の影

Having no more arriving train today, the lighting of the ghost station poorly illuminates those nearby bamboo lilies

*

　 電化区間ここまで延びて文明の及ぶ辺りに咲けり笹百合

As the electrified section has extended to this station, those bamboo lilies now bloom within reach of civilization

While the god is away, "fraternalism" is being talked about shamefacedly by the leader

地の底に亡者押し込み蚯蚓鳴く

Earthworms are singing to push all the dead deep into the horrible ground nadir

みちのくに夜咄いまも木の実落つ

Still folk tales narrated back home for children to sleep while trees are dropping nuts

*

自転車の三人乗りの夏帽子

Mother and two toddlers, each wearing a big straw hat, together on a bike

*

ものを言ふときの日傘は回らざり

As soon as the lady starts to talk, her white parasol stops its rotation

*

けふのことやはり記して蚊帳に入る

Recording in my diary after all what happened today, lie under this mosquito net

*

遊覧船過ぎて浮巣に波しばし

As a cabin cruiser passes, waves roll in for a while against the floating ducker's nest

*

妻の手を逃れてひとつ実梅かな

One ume apricot here that effected an escape from the hands of my wife

Its regular readers would be most disappointed that the Asahi Shinbun, the most reliable liberal newspaper in Japan, repeats blundering.
