Ornithopter is one of the free-flight model airplanes.Literally it can fly without propeller by flapping it's wings like a bird,dragonfly or butterfly .
The energy is supplied with rubber.While the rubber band causes the crankshaft to go round , connecting rods provide linear motion to the wing cranks. We can devide them into two main sorts. One is a monoplane ornithopter like a bird and other is a biplane ornithopter like a dragonfly. Because of the peculiarity ornithopter has been flown indoors like a gymnasium, stadium, or an aviation shed. But now we have built new outdoor-models which can be flown in the breeze. If it is a soft breath of air it can keep over 60 seconds in duration.
After all we find fascination in the flapping form of ornithopter. The figure is just like a living animals. Whenever people see a flying ornithopter they say " beautiful!" "great!" " pretty!". When I flew the model in a field the natural dragonfly often scrambled for the ornithopter.
If you have a few tools and a little "will" it is not so dificult to build ornithopter. Materials are balsa sheets, bamboo chops, cypress sticks, rubber bands, music wires, aluminium sticks, plastic films, brass tube and so on.
